Wellness

Compassionate and comprehensive wellness care for your pet.

At Madison Street Animal Hospital, we provide the best preventive and wellness care for our patients. This is the only way to ensure your pet lives a long healthy life.

Our wellness recommendations include:

Annual Exam: This is the most important part of your pet’s health. A good annual exam can reveal conditions that can be treated or managed better if diagnosed early.  A thorough annual wellness exam allows our doctors to provide the best care for your pet.

Vaccinations: Our doctors will work with you to individually tailor vaccination recommendations based on your pet’s exposure risk.

Wellness testing:  Routine screening diagnostics such as bloodwork, urinalysis and fecal testing allow us to detect medical conditions prior to your pet becoming symptomatic.  Early detection of age-related diseases helps to ensure a long and healthy life for your beloved pet.

Heartworm testing:  Historically, heartworm was not as common in western Washington as it was in some southern and eastern states. Over the last 10 years, we have seen a dramatic increase in the incidence of heartworm, and recommend testing all dogs every year. This is a simple and inexpensive test that will allow us to intervene a heartworm case before it develops into a serious condition.

Internal Parasites:  With all of our moisture and lack of extreme weather, the Pacific Northwest is a great breeding ground for internal parasites.  Performing a fecal exam every year allows us to identify an infection before your pet starts having diarrhea or other serious issues.  Many of these parasites can also infect people, and especially children!

Monthly parasite prevention:  We offer many safe products for your pet that prevent heartworm, intestinal parasites, fleas, and ticks.  These treatments are important for your pet’s long-term health.  We will work with you to determine which product is best for your pet.

Dentistry: Your pet’s dental health is very important.  Not taking care of their teeth will lead to tooth loss, bad breath, potentially serious health complications, and a shorter life span.  The two biggest aspects of dental care, just like with humans, are at-home preventative care and routine professional cleaning.

At-home dental care includes regularly brushing your pet’s teeth and supplementing their diet with dental chews or food/water additives.  Most pets also require anesthetic dental cleanings.  We use a state-of-the-art ultrasonic dental machine as well as digital dental x-rays to provide the best possible dental care for our patients.

Please call us at (206) 538-0890 to schedule a complimentary dental assessment with one of our excellent technicians.  This assessment will allow us to determine your pet’s need, as well as provide you a cost estimate for treatment.

Microchipping: A microchip is a safe, easy, and reliable method to help ensure you and your pet are reunited if lost.  A microchip is the size and shape of a grain of rice and is implanted underneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades.

Veterinary hospitals and animal shelters across the nation are equipped with the scanners capable of detecting and reading microchips, as well as the unique coded number which corresponds to your pet in the national pet database.

Diagnostics

Madison Street Animal Hospital is one of the best equipped veterinary hospitals in this modern era. Our diagnostic abilities include but not limited to:

In-House laboratory: Madison Street Animal Hospital has an in-house laboratory to run routine blood tests, pre-surgical bloodwork, and emergency blood profiles.  We also work with IDEXX Laboratory and board-certified pathologists when more comprehensive testing is indicated.

Digital diagnostic radiology: X-rays are used to diagnose numerous cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal and musculoskeletal conditions. All our images are reviewed by a board-certified radiologist to ensure that your pet is receiving the best care.

Advanced Imaging: Ultrasound and Cardiology are non-invasive ways to diagnose various abdominal and cardiovascular conditions. At Madison Street Animal Hospital, we have mobile ultrasound and cardiology specialists who come to our clinic to provide our patients with advanced imaging technology with interpretation by a board-certified specialist.

Opthalmology: Our veterinarians diagnose many ocular conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, corneal ulcers and uveitis.  We also have the ability to refer clients to local board-certified Ophthalmologists for further treatment when indicated.

Allergy testing: Allergies are one of the most common and frustrating skin conditions in veterinary medicine.  Our veterinarians will help you work through these challenging cases.

Anesthesia monitoring: Anesthesia monitoring is performed under strict supervision for any procedures using sedation or anesthesia.  We continuously monitor heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygenation and temperature in the same way as would be done in a human hospital.

Our veterinarians diagnose and manage critical internal medicine cases including but not limited to cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiology, ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and endocrinology.

Surgery

We offer a variety of surgical services including spaying/neutering, mass removals, bladder and intestinal surgeries.  If indicated, we can bring a board-certified surgeon to our clinic for more complicated soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries.

Our veterinarians diagnose and manage critical internal medicine cases including but not limited to cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiology, ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and endocrinology.

Don’t hesitate to contact us at (206) 538-0890 if you have any questions about your pet’s needs.
